This is me!

I'm Leticia Banegas, a Honduran artist. I was born on June 10 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I am passionate about my work and I try to improve myself in every painting I make. Painting has always been my passion, but I had to have a "real job" or so I was told constantly. So for many years I put my dreams on hold while studying for a degree in Graphic Design. In 2012 I decided to take a step into the world of art but this time stronger than ever. I had been changing jobs a lot because I got easily bored and frustrated; That made me feel guilty and sad, but it helped me identify that I wasn't where I wanted to be. It was at that moment that I knew I had to live my best life. So I stopped putting it off and started doing what I loved. It was scary at first, because I had children who depended on me but in the end it was the best decisión I could have made for myself.  Since then I paint full time.

I see my work as the representation of a world that exists somewhere between heaven and earth. I paint women and when I paint them I see them walking as if they were underwater, their hair flowing in slow motion. They exist, I see them. It's a magical realm that most of us can't see, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. What inspires me? the women in my family, who through the generations have left a legacy. Their stories are so rich, complex, and some of them almost surreal. I try to recreate a "world" populated by the magical presence of these women and others, who are warriors, mothers, spiritual, creative, reserved, sensitive, passionate, angels and nymphs who are there in that external world. Female archetypes that I represent with my personal seal.

If you are thinking of making art, please do! I promise that you won`t regret it.
